Academic Consultation
Academic consultation services support students and families in navigating school-based services, accommodations, and long-term educational planning. At Piece by Piece, we provide guidance for IEP and 504 plans, interpretation of school-based and private evaluations, and ongoing consultation to ensure that supports remain appropriate as academic demands change over time.
What this service includes
Academic consultation may involve:
- Review of prior testing, whether school-based, private, or neuropsychological
- Interpretation of educational data, including cognitive, academic, and behavioral findings
- Guidance on appropriate accommodations, modifications, and services
- Development or refinement of IEP and 504 plans
- Strategic planning for school transitions from elementary through college
- Evaluation for accommodations eligibility in post-secondary settings, including graduate school, professional programs, and residency
For younger students, brief targeted evaluations and concise reports can be conducted when full comprehensive testing is not indicated.
School meeting support
Our neuropsychologists are uniquely trained to integrate cognitive, academic, and behavioral data, making them well-positioned to support families in school meetings. We offer attendance at IEP/504 meetings (in-person or virtual), explanation of testing results in clear and actionable terms, recommendations grounded in data and best practices, and collaboration with school teams to align evaluation findings with educational supports.
Ongoing and long-term support
Consultation is provided on a short-term or ongoing basis. Some families seek one-time guidance, while others benefit from periodic follow-up across a student’s academic career. Ongoing support may include monitoring progress and updating recommendations, adjusting supports as academic demands increase, planning for standardized testing accommodations (ACT/SAT, graduate exams), and transition planning for college and post-secondary environments.
Structure
Consultations are typically conducted on a flexible, as-needed basis rather than a fixed treatment schedule. Meetings may focus on reviewing new concerns, problem-solving school-related issues, preparing for upcoming meetings, or updating recommendations based on new data.
Insurance and fees
Academic consultation services are not typically covered by insurance, as they fall outside the scope of medically necessary treatment. These services are provided on a private-pay basis.
