ADHD Testing in Illinois
Get clear answers about attention, focus, and executive functioning from a team of licensed clinical neuropsychologists. We serve patients from 18 months and up across our Chicago, Lake Forest, and Oak Brook locations.
What Is ADHD Testing?
ADHD testing is a neuropsychological evaluation that measures how your brain is functioning across the areas most associated with ADHD: attention, concentration, processing speed, executive functioning, learning, and memory.
At Piece by Piece, our clinical neuropsychologists do not rely on a single questionnaire or rating form. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation that examines multiple areas of cognitive functioning to build a complete picture of how you or your child is operating, and why.
Results are used to develop a customized, research-based treatment plan tailored to each patient’s needs.
Who Should Get ADHD Testing?
ADHD testing may be the right next step if you or your child:
- Struggles with focus, organization, or completing tasks
- Has been referred for an evaluation by a doctor, school, or therapist
- Needs a formal diagnosis to access accommodations at school or work
- Has previously been diagnosed but wants a more thorough evaluation
- Is an adult with concerns related to attention, ADHD, or psychiatric functioning

What Happens During an ADHD Evaluation?
Step 1: Intake Interview Your first appointment is a diagnostic interview with the doctor, conducted either in person or virtually. This typically lasts between 3 and 6 hours and includes a thorough review of your areas of concern and background.
Step 2: Testing After the interview, interactive tests are selected to examine specific areas of functioning including attention, concentration, processing speed, memory, reasoning, and executive skills. Testing is typically completed within a day. If additional time is needed, a follow-up session will be scheduled.
Step 3: Results and Follow-Up Following testing, the clinician scores the results and writes a comprehensive report. A follow-up meeting to discuss the results and next steps is scheduled 2 to 3 weeks after the evaluation.
Step 4: Treatment Planning Results are used to develop a customized treatment plan. With your permission, findings are shared with your doctors, therapists, and schools. We can also attend IEP/504 meetings and collaborate with referring providers on your behalf.
